因为我不是犹太人

在美国波士顿犹太人屠杀纪念碑上，铭刻著一位叫马丁.尼莫拉(Martin Niemoller)的德国新教牧师留下的发人深省的短诗。尼莫拉曾是纳粹的受害者：　　


First they came for the Communists, and I didn't speak up,because I wasn't a Communist.


  在德国，起初他们向共产主义者而来，我没有说话──因为我不是共产主义者;


Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up,because I wasn't a Jew.


  随后他们向犹太人而来，我没有说话──因为我不是犹太人;


Then they came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist.


  后来他们向工会成员而来，我没有说话──因为我不是工会成员;


Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up,because I was a Protestant.


  此后他们向天主教徒而来，我没有说话──因为我是新教徒;


Then they came for me, and by that time there was no one left to speak up for me.


  最后他们奔我而来，却再也没有人站起来为我说话了。
